Why there is no flat per-acre rate: below roughly 50 acres, the cost of a LiDAR survey is dominated by mobilisation (flight planning, airspace coordination, ground control, and the processing workflow), not by acreage. Doubling the site size does not double the price, which is why small sites have a higher effective per-acre rate and larger sites get progressively cheaper per acre.
What drives the price up or down
- Vegetation and terrain complexity: denser canopy needs higher point density (we fly 150–500+ points/m² depending on spec) and more processing time for ground classification.
- Deliverables: a classified point cloud (LAS/LAZ) costs less than a full package with bare-earth DTM, contours, DXF/DWG drawings, and volumetric analysis.
- Accuracy specification: standard survey-grade output is ±5 cm; tightening to ±2 cm requires denser ground control.
- Location and airspace: controlled airspace (most of Dublin and the urban east coast) adds coordination time.
- Repeat visits: monitoring programmes (quarterly corridor or quarry re-flights) are cheaper per visit than one-off surveys.
