Do I need to register my drone to fly in Ireland?
This is a common question that causes a lot of confusion.
Under the current EASA regulations, you must register as a drone operator if your drone is over 250g or has a camera. Many people discard the end of the sentence, but if your drone has a camera and is not a toy, you do have to register as an operator.
This does not include toy drones.
You no longer register the drone; you register as an operator of the drone.
Some popular examples of drones that you do have to register as an operator for include
- DJI Mini, Mini 2, Mini 4K
- DJI Mini 3 Pro
- DJI Mini 4 Pro
- DJI Air / Air 2S / Air 3S
- DJI Neo
- DJI Mavic Series – Mavic Pro / Pro 2 / Zoom / Mavic 3
- DJI FPV and Avata
Complete the registration on the IAA MySRS site: https://iaa.mysrs.ie/auth/sign-up
As of January 1st, 2024, you no longer need to complete A1/A3 training for sub-250 g drones. Reading the manufacturer’s manual is sufficient.
However, you still need to register with the IAA as a Drone Operator.
