Key Deliverables

Every chimney inspection produces a comprehensive condition report with geo-tagged imagery, defect classification, and maintenance recommendations.

Condition Report

Structured written report documenting the condition of the stack, flue, cap, pointing, banding, and any access infrastructure – with defect severity ratings.

HD Defect Imagery

High-resolution close-up photographs of every identified defect, geo-tagged and annotated with location references for maintenance teams.

Thermal Survey

Radiometric thermal imagery identifying heat loss, refractory failure, and hotspots not visible to standard cameras – available on request or combined in a single flight.

360° Video Footage

Full 360-degree video of the stack from ground level to cap, providing a complete visual record for insurance, compliance, and planning purposes.

Insurance Documentation

Report format accepted by insurers and compliance bodies for scheduled inspection requirements. Suitable for HSA, planning, and asset management records.

Maintenance Priority List

Prioritised repair schedule with defect locations, severity classifications, and recommended intervention timeline to support maintenance planning and budget allocation.

Industrial Stack or Domestic Chimney?

We inspect everything from domestic chimney stacks and boiler flues to large industrial chimneys, cooling towers, and process stacks. Our EASA-certified pilots operate across Ireland with same-week availability.

How We Inspect Chimneys & Stacks

A structured aerial inspection that captures every surface of the stack without halting operations or installing any access equipment.

01

Site Assessment & Airspace Check

We review the structure height, surrounding buildings, and any airspace restrictions before arrival. Chimneys near airports or in controlled airspace require additional notification – we manage this as part of our EASA Specific Category authorisation. A pre-flight safety briefing is conducted on site with relevant personnel.

02

360° Orbital Survey

The drone performs a systematic orbital survey at multiple altitudes, capturing the full external surface of the stack from base to cap. We fly close passes at 3-5m standoff distance for surface defect detection and wider context passes to document the full structure. Every section is captured at consistent angles for comparison against previous inspections.

03

Thermal Pass (if required)

Where a thermal inspection is included, the Zenmuse H20T radiometric sensor identifies heat loss through the stack wall, refractory lining failures, and any areas of anomalous temperature. Thermal data is captured under consistent conditions and processed into a radiometric report alongside the visual survey.

04

Report & Delivery

The inspection report is delivered within 48 hours and includes a written condition assessment, defect register with severity ratings, and a full library of geo-tagged HD photographs. Defects are referenced to compass bearing and height above ground for easy location by maintenance teams. The report is formatted for HSA compliance, insurer submission, and asset management records.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our drone chimney and stack inspection service.

Yes. Our EASA Specific Category authorisation allows us to operate in areas that are off-limits to standard drone operators, including near airports, in congested zones, and close to sensitive infrastructure. We manage all airspace notifications through the IAA as part of our standard service.
We routinely operate at 3-5 metres standoff distance from the stack surface, which allows us to capture detail equivalent to a close rope access inspection. The pilot monitors live HD feed throughout and adjusts standoff as required for safety and image quality.
Not always. Cold stacks can be inspected at any time. Active flues require coordination to ensure safe operating temperatures around the flue termination. We discuss operational status during scoping and plan flights accordingly – for most active stacks a brief shutdown of 30-60 minutes is sufficient.
Yes. Our condition reports are structured for HSA compliance, insurer submission, and asset management records. The defect register, geo-tagged imagery, and severity classifications meet the documentation standards required by most facility managers and industrial operators in Ireland.
Yes – and this is common practice. A single site mobilisation can cover the chimney stack, roof, and building facades in one visit, reducing overall inspection cost. See our building and roof inspection page for details on what that combined survey covers.
